tldr: out of 17 cafes, my top 3 are the project cafe (best ambiance, ambawadi), ocd culture (best coffee, bodakdev), and zen cafe (most unique, amdavad ni gufa). this is a research-backed post — i’ve visited some of these personally, and the rest are based on local recommendations, reviews, and a lot of cross-referencing. full reviews with prices, wifi, and honest opinions below.
ok so here’s the thing. ahmedabad’s cafe scene isn’t as deep as pune’s. pune has that old irani cafe culture, koregaon park density, fc road chaos. ahmedabad doesn’t have that history.
but what ahmedabad does have is a newer, fast-growing cafe scene that’s honestly surprised me. a lot of specialty coffee spots popping up, some genuinely creative concepts (an art cafe? a tech cafe?), and prices that make pune look expensive.
this post is research-backed. i’ve visited some of these cafes personally during my ahmedabad trips, and the rest are compiled from local recommendations, verified reviews, and cross-referencing multiple sources. i’m not going to pretend i spent 3 months here like i did in pune. where i haven’t been personally, i’ll tell you.
no sponsorships. no one paid me. that’s kind of my thing.
here’s how i evaluated: vibes, food, coffee, wifi, price. each rated out of 10. i grouped them by what they’re actually good for, because “best cafe in ahmedabad” means nothing without context.
the awards (my personal picks)
- best overall: the project cafe, ambawadi — art gallery meets cafe, hard to beat
- best for working: the project cafe — wifi, space, no rush to leave
- best for dates: little french house, navrangpura — warm lighting, french pastries, cozy corners
- best budget cafe: zen cafe, amdavad ni gufa — rs 450 for two with the most unique setting
- best coffee (actual quality): ocd culture, bodakdev — proper specialty coffee with manual brews
- best aesthetic/instagram: triton, bodakdev — full greece vibes, very photogenic
- best unique concept: caffix the tech cafe, thaltej — board games, phone repairs, and food
- best rooftop: makeba the lounge cafe, vastrapur — 8th floor, mood lighting, city views

work cafes (laptop, wifi, long sits)
these are the spots where you can actually get stuff done. power sockets, decent wifi, and staff that won’t give you the stink eye for staying 3 hours on one coffee.
1. the project cafe
ambawadi / rs 1000 for two / wifi: yes / 8.5/10

this is the one everyone recommends in ahmedabad and honestly? they’re right. it’s a bungalow converted into a cafe, with an art gallery on the ground floor and the dining area upstairs. four different rooms, each with its own character. greenery everywhere, eclectic furniture, art on the walls.
the food is decent — not mind-blowing but good enough. you’re really here for the space. wifi works, seating is comfortable, and the creative crowd that hangs here makes it feel alive without being noisy.
some reviews say it’s overpriced for what you get food-wise. i’d agree partially — the food is a 7, but the space is a 10. you’re paying rent for the vibe.
verdict: best overall cafe in ahmedabad for working. if pune has pagdandi, ahmedabad has the project cafe. different energy, similar comfort level. if you’re the type who works from cafes across cities, you’ll appreciate this one.
2. ocd culture
bodakdev / rs 550 for two / wifi: yes / 8.5/10

this is where ahmedabad’s coffee snobs come. and i mean that with love. ocd culture has a dedicated manual brewing station called the slow bar — v60 pour overs, aeropress, the works. the baristas actually know what they’re doing.
the space is minimalist and clean. not too big, which means it fills up on weekends. but on a weekday morning? perfect spot to park your laptop. at rs 550 for two, this is genuinely underpriced for the quality you get.
if you care about actual coffee quality (not just “cafe coffee”), this is the spot.
verdict: best specialty coffee in ahmedabad. the slow bar alone is worth the visit. laptop-friendly with actual good coffee — rare combo.
3. caffix the tech cafe
thaltej / rs 1300 for two / wifi: yes (conditions apply) / 7.5/10

ok so this is a weird one. it’s a cafe where you can also get your phone repaired. yea. tech cafe. they have board games, multiplayer gaming setups, and food — all under one roof.
the concept is fun for groups. but here’s what bugs me: wifi costs rs 500 (redeemable on food) and laptop use is capped at 30 minutes. for a “tech cafe”, that’s a strange restriction. if you’re just here to eat and play games, it’s solid. if you’re here to work, the wifi policy is frustrating.
food is decent, wide menu, and the board game collection is genuinely impressive.
verdict: great concept, fun for groups and gaming sessions. but the wifi restrictions make it a weird choice for actual work. come here for fun, not for your laptop.
4. starbucks
navrangpura (cg road) / rs 650 for two / wifi: yes / 7/10

look, it’s starbucks. you know what you’re getting. reliable wifi, comfortable chairs, nobody bothers you. the navrangpura outlet near st. xavier’s college is the most popular one.
nothing special about the experience but nothing wrong either. open late (11:45pm), parking available, and predictable quality. sometimes predictable is exactly what you need.
verdict: default work cafe when you need reliability over personality. it’s the “safe option” and that’s fine.
date cafes (impress someone or treat yourself)
ahmedabad doesn’t have pune’s koregaon park-level density of date spots, but these three deliver. especially little french house — that one genuinely surprised me.
5. little french house
navrangpura / rs 1200 for two / wifi: yes / 8.5/10

this is ahmedabad’s answer to cafe madeline in pune. warm lighting, cozy french-style decor, and a bakery next door with fresh croissants and pastries. the hot chocolate is legit, the pasta is well-made, and the desserts are the star.
the ambiance is intimate without being try-hard. tables are spaced well, lighting is warm, and the music is soft enough that you can actually have a conversation. near stadium circle, so easy to find.
some reviews mention slow service, which is a common complaint at popular cafes in ahmedabad. go on a weekday if you can.
verdict: best date cafe in ahmedabad. the bakery next door is an added bonus — pick up croissants on your way out. your date will be impressed.
6. the dark roast
prahlad nagar / rs 900 for two / wifi: yes / 8/10

cozy, dimly lit, funky interiors. the dark roast has that “we’re too cool for bright lighting” energy and it works. their locally roasted coffee is good — the vienna roast pour over is the one to try.
it’s on sg highway near the nexa showroom, easy to find. open till midnight on weekends which makes it perfect for a late dinner date. the food is italian-leaning — pasta, pizza, sandwiches — and it’s consistently decent.
live music on some weekends. the crowd skews young — college students and young professionals.
verdict: best casual date cafe in ahmedabad. not as polished as little french house but more relaxed. good for a second or third date when you don’t need to impress as hard.
7. mocha
bodakdev / rs 1200 for two / wifi: yes / 7.5/10

mocha’s been around in ahmedabad for a while now. the bodakdev outlet has beautiful outdoor seating, spacious interiors, and a vibe that’s comfortable for both couples and groups.
the food is decent but slightly overpriced. desserts and beverages are the stronger parts of the menu. the outdoor area during winter evenings is lovely — fairy lights, open air, good music.
some reviews mention occasional loud music and mixed food quality. it’s not what it used to be honestly, but the space is still worth visiting.
verdict: reliable date spot with good ambiance. the outdoor seating saves it. food is a 6.5, vibes are an 8.
aesthetic/instagram cafes (look good, feel good)
these are the places you go when the camera comes out. ahmedabad has some genuinely creative concepts here.
8. triton
bodakdev / rs 1500 for two / wifi: yes / 8/10

greece. in bodakdev. white-washed walls, blue accents, bougainvillea vibes. triton is the most instagrammable cafe in ahmedabad and they know it. every corner is designed for photos.
the food leans greek — think mezze platters, pita wraps, and mediterranean bowls alongside pancakes and pastas. it’s slightly pricier at rs 1500 for two, but you’re paying for the experience. the fluffy pancakes are genuinely good.
it opened relatively recently and has been blowing up on instagram. expect a wait on weekends.
verdict: most aesthetic cafe in ahmedabad. go for the photos, stay for the pancakes. best visited on a weekday morning when you can actually get a table.
9. wabi sabi art cafe
bodakdev / rs 550 for two / wifi: no / 7.5/10

ahmedabad’s first art cafe. the concept: you eat, you drink, and you paint. they give you canvases, tote bags, planters, coasters — whatever you want to paint on. all materials provided.
the food and drinks are secondary to the experience. coffee is decent, milkshakes are fine. the art supplies are where they make their money (some say it’s overpriced for what you get). but as a date activity or a weekend outing with friends? it’s genuinely fun.
behind rajpath club in bodakdev. open 11am to 11pm.
verdict: most unique date activity in ahmedabad. not a “cafe” cafe — it’s an experience. go with someone creative and you’ll have a great time.
budget cafes (good vibes, easy on the wallet)
this is where ahmedabad really shines compared to pune and mumbai. you can get a solid cafe experience for under rs 600 here.
10. zen cafe
amdavad ni gufa (university area) / rs 450 for two / wifi: no / 8/10

this cafe exists inside the amdavad ni gufa complex — a cave-like art gallery designed by husain and doshi. you sit outside surrounded by this surreal architecture, sip your coffee, and feel like you’ve teleported out of ahmedabad.
the menu is simple — chinese, italian, good coffee, solid nachos. the hot chocolate and mint mojito are popular. it’s not fancy food but the setting is so unique that it doesn’t matter.
sunset here is magical. the crowd is a mix of students, artists, and tourists.
no wifi, so don’t come here to work. come here to think. or to do nothing. i know that feeling.
verdict: most unique cafe in ahmedabad, possibly in all of gujarat. at rs 450 for two, it’s a steal. the architecture alone is worth the trip.
11. nook by grace coffee co.
navrangpura / rs 450 for two / wifi: yes / 7.5/10

tiny, cozy coffee shop near st. xavier’s college corner. the vietnamese coffee is their standout — most people don’t expect to find good vietnamese coffee in ahmedabad. iced americano, matcha latte, the usual suspects are all well-made.
at rs 450 for two, this is genuinely cheap for the coffee quality. the space is small though, maybe 15-20 seats. not ideal for groups but perfect for a solo coffee or a quick catch-up with a friend.
some reviews mention inconsistency — the baked goods can be hit or miss. stick to the coffee.
verdict: best budget coffee in ahmedabad. tiny space, big flavor. come for the vietnamese coffee, keep your expectations moderate on the food.
12. roastea
thaltej (palladium mall) / rs 550 for two / wifi: yes / 7/10

ahmedabad-born chain that’s expanding fast. they’re a coffee-and-tea fusion concept — think rose iced latte, belgian mocha java, alongside masala chai and kulhad coffees. the make-your-own pizza with 11,000+ combinations is their marketing hook (it’s decent, nothing revolutionary).
the thaltej outlet at palladium mall is the most accessible. clean, well-lit, comfortable. good for a quick stop, not really a “stay for hours” place.
reviews are split — some love the drinks, some find the food inconsistent. service can be slow. but at rs 550 for two, hard to complain much.
verdict: decent budget chain cafe. good for a quick coffee stop while shopping. nothing memorable but nothing offensive either.
coffee-focused cafes (for the coffee snobs)
ahmedabad’s specialty coffee scene is young but growing. these spots take their beans seriously.
13. brewgarten
navrangpura / rs 650 for two / wifi: yes / 7.5/10

small, cozy shop near hl commerce college. the popcorn coffee is their signature and it’s worth trying just for the novelty. the mocha is solid too. the baristas know their stuff and will walk you through their menu if you ask.
the space is tiny — maybe 10-12 seats. parking is a nightmare because it’s in a narrow lane. but if you care about coffee quality over space, this is a good pick.
some reviews mention the quality has dipped over time. fingers crossed it holds up.
verdict: good specialty coffee in a tiny space. go for the popcorn coffee, accept the parking chaos.
14. kaffa coffee roasters
vastrapur / rs 1400 for two / wifi: yes / 7.5/10

multiple outlets in ahmedabad — vastrapur, bodakdev, ambawadi. they roast their own beans and offer various brewing methods. the croissants and mezze platter are good pairings with your coffee.
it’s pricier than most cafes on this list at rs 1400 for two, which pushes it into “is it worth it?” territory. the answer: for the coffee, yes. for the food, sometimes. reviews mention occasional inconsistency in food quality and the noise level can get high.
pure vegetarian, which is standard for ahmedabad.
verdict: good coffee, inconsistent food, slightly overpriced. come here specifically for the coffee and keep your food order simple.
15. roastery cultur
bodakdev / rs 700 for two / wifi: yes / 7.5/10

calm, soothing space near the auda garden in bodakdev. the cranberry coffee combination is their unique offering and it actually works — sweet, tart, and caffeinated. the ambiance is designed for relaxation: muted colors, comfortable seating, no rush.
at rs 700 for two, it hits a sweet spot between budget and premium. open till midnight. pure veg.
verdict: solid coffee shop with a relaxing vibe. the cranberry coffee is worth trying at least once. good for a calm evening.
rooftop/outdoor cafes (views and vibes)
ahmedabad’s rooftop scene is bigger than its cafe scene honestly. these two stood out for the cafe experience specifically.
16. makeba the lounge cafe
vastrapur (iim road) / rs 1900 for two / wifi: yes / 8/10

8th floor. mood lighting. city views. makeba is the premium rooftop cafe experience in ahmedabad. the interior design is striking — they’ve invested heavily in the space and it shows. large screens, comfortable seating, and an open terrace section.
the food is surprisingly good for a place that could coast on views alone. portions are generous. staff is polite and attentive. the price tag (rs 1900 for two) is justified by the full experience.
above the maruti nexa showroom on iim road. easy to miss if you’re not looking for it.
verdict: best rooftop cafe in ahmedabad. splurge-worthy. great for celebrations, special occasions, or when you just want to feel fancy.
17. brewich cafe
chandkheda / rs 1000 for two / wifi: yes / 7/10

rooftop cafe on the 7th floor of d mall, opposite 4d square. the peri peri pizza and cheese fondue are popular picks. they do live music some evenings which adds to the experience.
the decor is nice, both indoor and outdoor seating available. pure veg. views are decent but nothing spectacular compared to makeba. at rs 1000 for two, it’s a more affordable rooftop option.
parking is not dedicated which is annoying. also it’s in chandkheda — not the most central location.
verdict: budget rooftop option. good for a casual evening with friends. the live music nights are the best time to visit.
