tldr: out of 17 cafes, my top 3 are moonstruck coffee (best aesthetic, vesu), meraki the coffee house (best for working, vesu), and koselig (best rooftop, piplod). this is a research-backed post, not all personal visits, more on that below. full reviews with prices, wifi, and honest opinions below.
note: this is a research-backed post. i haven’t personally visited all 17 cafes on this list. some i’ve been to, some are based on extensive research, local recommendations, google/zomato reviews, and conversations with friends who live in surat. i’ll always be upfront about this, no fake “i visited every cafe” energy. where my info comes from research rather than personal experience, the reviews reflect aggregated opinions, not just mine.
surat’s cafe scene has quietly become one of the best in gujarat. while ahmedabad gets all the attention, surat has been building something interesting, specialty coffee roasters, scandinavian-inspired interiors, brew-it-yourself experiences, and a cafe that made it to vogue’s list of india’s most beautiful cafes.
the city’s cafe culture is concentrated in a few key areas: vesu is the undisputed cafe hub, piplod has the premium spots, adajan is budget-friendly, athwa/city light has the old-school crowd, and parle point sits somewhere in between.
here’s how i’ve rated them: vibes, coffee, food, wifi, price. each out of 10. no sponsorships, no one paid me.

work cafes (laptop, wifi, long sits)
these are the ones where you can sit for a few hours, get work done, and not feel like you’re being silently judged by the waiter. surat has fewer dedicated work cafes compared to pune or bangalore, but these hold up.
1. meraki the coffee house
vesu / rs 550 for two / wifi: yes / 8.5/10

this is where surat’s freelancers and remote workers camp out. two locations, vesu and city light. the vesu one opens at 8am which is a huge plus. free wifi, comfortable seating, and coffees that won’t burn your wallet.
they’re serious about their beans, a wide range of options from specialty drinks to non-dairy alternatives. the food is average, come here for the coffee and the workspace, not the kitchen.
verdict: best cafe in surat for working. the kind of place where nobody cares if you sit for 4 hours nursing a single cappuccino. pocket-friendly and peaceful.
2. starbucks
city light / rs 800 for two / wifi: yes / 6.5/10

look, i know. starbucks isn’t exciting. but sometimes you need reliable wifi, air conditioning, and a predictable coffee. the city light location on parle point is spacious, well-maintained, and the staff leaves you alone.
is the coffee overpriced? yes. is the experience generic? also yes. but when you have a zoom call in 20 minutes and need guaranteed wifi, you end up here.
verdict: not the best cafe in surat, but the most reliable. the office away from office when everything else fails.
date cafes (impress someone or treat yourself)
3. koselig
piplod / rs 1300 for two / wifi: yes / 8.5/10

the name means “the feeling of being comfortable” in norwegian, and they’ve nailed the concept. white nordic theme with pops of color indoors, jazzy outdoor rooftop with just the right amount of greenery.
the unlimited coffee refill combo is genuinely smart, especially if you’re the type who lingers on dates (guilty). continental dishes, salads, italian pizzas, and their layered cakes and salted caramel chocolate tarts are really something.
verdict: best rooftop cafe in surat and best date spot. the kind of place where you don’t want the evening to end. mid-range pricing, worth every rupee.
4. the commoner’s kitchen
athwa / rs 1200 for two / wifi: yes / 8/10

mediterranean-style interiors with textured walls, natural woodcut furniture, and elliptical roofs. dimly lit, cozy, and the gourmet burgers here are the highlight, classic chick, benjamin mutton, grilled cheddar chicken. the loaded nachos are also worth ordering.
heads up: it’s in a quiet residential area off ghod dod road. parking is a pain because of the narrow road. reserve a table because it gets packed on weekends.
verdict: best date cafe in surat if your partner appreciates good food over instagrammable decor. the vibe is intimate without trying too hard.
5. the good stuff cafe
piplod / rs 900 for two / wifi: yes / 8.5/10

established in 2018, this is a proper roastery and coffee shop. they roast their own beans, offer multiple brewing methods, and the staff actually knows what they’re talking about. outlets in piplod and vesu, plus they’ve expanded to mumbai which says something about their quality.
the tropical aesthetic makes it a safe, cozy date spot. they also support growing brands and display cute stationery and local products. rated 4.8/5 on restaurant guru which is genuinely rare.
verdict: best coffee quality in surat. if you care about how your coffee is sourced and roasted, not just how it looks on instagram, this is your place. also doubles as a solid date spot.
aesthetic/instagram cafes (for the gram and beyond)
6. moonstruck coffee
vesu / rs 850 for two / wifi: yes / 9/10

the only cafe from surat to make it to vogue’s list of “most beautiful cafes in india.” that’s not marketing fluff, the scandinavian-inspired design is genuinely stunning. warm wood tones, minimal clutter, and a huge bookshelf that actually has books people read.
their specialty is cold brews, mazagran (lemon-infused black coffee), tropical cold brew, barrel-aged cold brews. the rich chocolate brownie is exceptional. the spaciousness is what gets me though, most cafes cram tables together, moonstruck gives you room to breathe.
verdict: best overall cafe in surat. whether you’re solo, on a date, or with friends, this place works for everyone. the vogue recognition isn’t accidental.
7. coffee experience center (xpc)
piplod / rs 800 for two / wifi: yes / 8/10

stepping into xpc feels like stepping into a pinterest board. open layout, aesthetic coffee-inspired walls, and brewing equipment on display everywhere. but the real hook is the brew-it-yourself (biy) concept, they actually teach you how to make your own coffee.
they host live music sessions and coffee workshops. there’s a loyalty card system. the brownies are allegedly the best in the city. located on dumas road, third floor of altair building.

the menu covers chinese, north indian, and italian. soft lighting, rustic decor, and the pastries are solid. multiple locations across the city including adajan and vesu. the parle point original is still the best.
verdict: the og hangout cafe in surat. not the trendiest anymore, but consistently good vibes, good food, and good coffee. the kind of place where everyone has a memory.
10. livestream coffee
vesu / rs 600 for two / wifi: yes / 7.5/10

vibrant decor, spacious seating area, and they’re open 9am to midnight which gives it late-night cafe energy. the mint mojito iced coffee and hazelnut coffee are popular picks. they also do unique ice cream blends.
multiple outlets across vesu and piplod. the vibe is young, loud, and social. not the best for working but great for catching up with friends.

11. the bungalow cafe
vesu / rs 900 for two / wifi: yes / 7.5/10

housed in a restored space that actually feels like a bungalow. live music, relaxed atmosphere, and their chilli garlic pizza has a cult following. pure vegetarian, which is standard for surat but worth mentioning for visitors.
the crowd is mixed, families, friend groups, college students. weekends get packed. the pasta alfredo is also a safe bet.
verdict: best cafe in surat for groups. spacious enough that you don’t feel cramped with 6 people, and the live music adds to the vibe.

13. coffee king
adajan / rs 400 for two / wifi: yes / 7.5/10

running since 2015 with three lounges and a kiosk across adajan, vesu, katargam, and pal. their goal is “awesome food, specialty coffee, and desserts at fair prices” and they actually deliver on that promise.
comfy interiors, good music, friendly staff. the pastas and granitas are surprisingly good for the price. the vesu outlet has a party hall that seats 40 for events.
verdict: best value-for-money cafe in surat. the kind of place where you eat, drink, and realize you’ve only spent rs 200 per person. that’s rare.
