tldr: out of 10 studios, my top picks are tattoos 1960 (best overall, koregaon park), kit’s tattoo studio (best for portraits, aundh), and ink mantra (best for minimalist, baner). pune tattoo prices are 30-40% cheaper than mumbai for the same quality. full reviews with prices, specialties, and hygiene notes below.

so i got my first tattoo in pune about three years ago. walked into a studio in koregaon park, nervous as hell, hands sweating, acting like i was about to get surgery. the artist looked at me and said “bro relax, it’s just a tattoo.”

that one line changed everything.

since then i’ve been back multiple times, visited different studios, talked to artists, watched friends get inked, and slowly figured out which studios in pune are actually good and which ones are just riding instagram hype.

pune’s tattoo scene is genuinely underrated. most people think you need to go to mumbai or bangalore for good ink. that’s not true anymore. pune has some seriously talented artists, and the best part? prices are way lower. we’re talking 30-40% less than mumbai for comparable quality.

but here’s the thing nobody tells you: searching “best tattoo studio in pune” on google gives you justdial listings and instagram pages. no actual honest reviews. no real price comparisons. just ads.

so here’s mine. no sponsorships, no paid placements. just what i’ve seen, experienced, and heard from people i trust. kind of like my cafe reviews - no shortcuts.

the awards (my personal picks)

  • best overall: tattoos 1960, koregaon park

detailed reviews

1. tattoos 1960

koregaon park / starting at rs 1000 per sq inch / 9/10

tattoos 1960 koregaon park pune

this is the studio i recommend to everyone. 16+ artists, multiple branches (koregaon park, baner, magarpatta), and over 4000 google reviews with a 4.8 rating. that’s not hype, that’s consistency.

what sets them apart is the hygiene. every client gets a fresh setup. uv sterilisers, steam-based autoclaves for reusable equipment, single-use needles, fresh gloves. they’re almost clinical about it. they even have a price calculator on their website so you know what you’re paying before you walk in.

their minimalist and abstract work is clean. fine lines, geometric patterns, small meaningful tattoos. they do everything but this is where they really shine. the artists are patient, especially with first-timers. they’ll spend time with your design, suggest improvements, and won’t rush you.

verdict: best all-round tattoo studio in pune. if you’re getting your first tattoo and want zero stress, start here.

2. kit’s tattoo studio

aundh (iti road, opposite deutsche bank) / starting at rs 800 per sq inch / 9/10

kit's tattoo studio aundh pune

ankit is the real deal. 12+ years of experience, award-winning artist, animation graduate. his black and grey portraits are some of the best i’ve seen in pune. the realism in his work is insane - pores, textures, light and shadow, all on skin.

the studio is on iti road in aundh. small space but incredibly clean. ankit runs it with a small team and gives personal attention to every piece. he’s also one of the friendliest tattoo artists you’ll meet, which matters a lot when you’re sitting in that chair for 3 hours.

rated 4.9 on google with 1500+ reviews. that’s the highest rating of any tattoo studio in pune. people consistently mention his patience, skill, and down-to-earth nature. when someone has that many reviews and still holds a 4.9, you know it’s legit.

colour compositions are another strength. the guy studied animation, so he understands colour theory on a level most tattoo artists don’t. if you want a colour piece that actually pops and ages well, ankit knows what he’s doing.

verdict: best tattoo artist in pune for portraits and black & grey realism. if you want a face tattoo that actually looks like a face, go to ankit.

3. ink mantra tattoo studio

baner / karve nagar / starting at rs 800 per sq inch / 8.5/10

ink mantra tattoo studio baner pune

founded by vishal fugare in 2015, ink mantra has quietly built one of the best reputations in pune. 50,000+ happy clients and a 4.9 google rating. the baner branch is rated a perfect 5.0 with 245 reviews. those numbers don’t lie.

they use only brand-new, single-use materials for everything: needles, ink caps, gloves, razors. hygiene is taken very seriously here. the studio itself is clean and modern, and the team actually listens to what you want.

their minimalist work is beautiful. fine lines, delicate lettering, small symbols - the kind of stuff that looks simple but requires serious precision. but they’re equally good with colour realism and larger custom pieces. it’s a premium studio but the pricing is fair for what you get.

harsha fugare (co-founder) is also worth mentioning. it’s a family-run operation and that shows in the personal touch. you’re not just a ticket number here.

verdict: best studio in pune for minimalist tattoos. if you want something small, meaningful, and perfectly executed, this is your spot.

4. aliens tattoo

viman nagar (solitaire business hub) / starting at rs 1200 per sq inch / 8.5/10

aliens tattoo viman nagar pune

aliens tattoo is the big name. they started in mumbai and now have studios across 14+ cities. the pune branch is in viman nagar, near legacy hotel. they’re known for one thing above all: micro-realism. taking incredibly detailed realistic designs and shrinking them to miniature scale using ultra-thin needles.

the quality is undeniable. some of the most technically impressive tattoo work in india comes from aliens. their artist-matching system is smart - you get paired with someone whose style fits your specific vision, whether that’s neo-traditional, japanese, blackwork, or realism.

the hygiene is hospital-grade. uv sterilisers, everything documented, completely transparent process. this is probably the most sterile tattoo studio in pune.

but here’s the honest part: they’re expensive. the most expensive on this list. minimum base price is rs 2500 regardless of size, and per-inch rates start at rs 1200. some reviews call them overpriced and overhyped. i think the pricing is justified if you specifically want micro-realism or hyper-realism. for simpler styles, you can get comparable quality at tattoos 1960 or kit’s for less. they do offer emi for tattoos above rs 15000, which is nice.

verdict: best studio in pune for micro-realism and hyper-detailed work. premium pricing, premium output. go here if you want something technically jaw-dropping and don’t mind paying for it.

5. sabby’s tattoo studio

koregaon park / fc road / mg road / starting at rs 800 per sq inch / 8/10

sabby's tattoo studio koregaon park pune

one of the oldest tattoo studios in india, not just pune. sabby’s has been running since 1998. saurabh pardesi (sabby) and his team specialise in dramatic, deeply-detailed custom work. this is where you go when you have an idea in your head and need someone experienced enough to bring it to life.

they have outlets in koregaon park, mg road, fc road, and even goa. the koregaon park branch is rated 4.3 with over 1000 reviews. not the highest rating, but the volume of work they’ve done is enormous. 25+ years of tattooing shows in their ability to handle literally any design.

the studio handles nervous customers well. they understand that not everyone walks in confident. equipment is top-notch, hygiene is solid. the experience factor is the biggest advantage here.

where they lose points: the studio aesthetics haven’t kept pace with newer places. it’s more old-school in feel. the art quality is solid though, and you can’t fake 25 years of experience.

verdict: the veteran of pune’s tattoo scene. best for complex custom designs where you need an artist who’s truly seen it all.

6. bull’s tattoo studio

camp (mg road) / starting at rs 600 per sq inch / 8/10

bull's tattoo studio camp mg road pune

bull’s has been around since 2000 and is run by vijay, a professional tattooist who built this studio with one goal: proper hygiene in a friendly environment. and he delivers on both.

all instruments are cleaned and sterilised in an autoclave. fresh needles and single-use disposable items for every client. they’re licensed and they take the sanitary stuff seriously. you can actually see the autoclave in the studio, which is a good sign.

what they’re known for is 3d tattoos. the kind that look like they’re popping off your skin. also excellent at black and grey work and intricate dotwork. the camp location on mg road is accessible and the studio has a comfortable, no-nonsense vibe.

rated 4.8 with over 2000 reviews. at rs 600 per square inch starting, they’re one of the best value studios in pune. the quality-to-price ratio here is hard to beat.

verdict: best value tattoo studio in pune for 3d and dotwork. solid hygiene, solid pricing, solid work. no complaints.

7. kraayonz tattoo studio

koregaon park (north main road) / starting at rs 500 per sq inch / 7.5/10

kraayonz tattoo studio koregaon park pune

founded by sameer patange in 2007, kraayonz has built a reputation across the country. sameer and his team have tattooed celebrities like sanjay dutt, salman khan, and urmila matondkar. that’s the level of clientele they attract.

the studio is on north main road in koregaon park, near damco society. they’re known for cover-up work (fixing bad tattoos), wrist tattoos, and face tattoos. if you have an old tattoo you regret, kraayonz is the place to go. sameer has the patience and experience to turn a bad piece into something you’re proud of.

at rs 500 per square inch starting, they’re the most affordable established studio on this list. the quality is good for the price. not the most refined fine-line work, but for bold designs, tribal, and cover-ups, they deliver consistently.

the one thing to note: rated 3.7 on justdial, which is lower than others. some reviews mention wait times and inconsistency. check recent reviews and ask specifically for sameer or the senior artists if you go.

verdict: best budget-friendly established studio in pune and the go-to for cover-up tattoos. celebrity clientele adds credibility, but request a senior artist.

8. guns artwork

koregaon park (north main road, near tara baug) / starting at rs 700 per sq inch / 7.5/10

guns artwork tattoo studio koregaon park pune

one of the longest-running studios in koregaon park, guns artwork has been operating since 2006. the team includes hitesh (senior partner), michael, and mukul - all experienced artists with different strengths.

their motto is “no respect, no tattoo” which tells you about the vibe. they take their craft seriously. they specialise in shading, 3d effects, spray-style, and illusion tattoos. they also do body piercing and dreadlocks if you’re into that.

the studio is in zeenat apartment on north main road. rated 4.1 with 117 reviews. not the highest numbers, but the people who go here tend to be repeat customers. it’s more of a word-of-mouth studio than an instagram-famous one, which honestly i kind of respect.

the vibe is old-school koregaon park. no fancy interiors, no ring lights. just artists who know what they’re doing and don’t need to advertise it.

verdict: best for shading and illusion work. old-school koregaon park studio with genuine skill. go if you want something artistic and unconventional.

9. bhikshu tattoo studio

viman nagar / sinhagad road / starting at rs 600 per sq inch / 7.5/10

bhikshu tattoo studio viman nagar pune

founded by sandip waghmare, an award-winning tattoo artist, bhikshu has branches in viman nagar, sinhagad road, and hadapsar. rated 4.9 with nearly 300 reviews on some platforms. that’s impressive for a studio that doesn’t market as aggressively as the bigger names.

the studio is clean, staff is friendly, and sandip’s custom work shows real creativity and attention to detail. they’re a government-affiliated studio with an mlc code, which adds a layer of legitimacy. they’ve been in business for 8 years now.

good for traditional designs, custom work, and colour tattoos. pricing is fair. they’re not as well-known as tattoos 1960 or aliens, but the quality is quietly excellent. customers consistently mention the skilled and experienced artistry.

verdict: the underrated pick. great quality, friendly artist, fair prices. worth visiting if you’re in the viman nagar, hadapsar, or sinhagad road area.

10. body arts tattoo & piercing studio

narayan peth (near vijay theatre) / starting at rs 500 per sq inch / 7/10

body arts tattoo narayan peth pune

the most budget-friendly option on this list. black and grey tattoos start at rs 500 per square inch, colour at rs 600. for small tattoos under rs 2000, this is one of the cheapest legitimate studios in pune.

located in narayan peth, it’s not in the trendy koregaon park area, but the work is clean and the pricing is transparent. they publish their full pricing on their website, which i respect. no surprises, no hidden “hygiene kit” charges.

rated 4.6 with 78 reviews. they also run a tattoo training school, so they take the craft seriously and understand fundamentals. hygiene is standard - nothing flashy, but they follow the basics properly. single-use needles, gloves, clean workspace.

verdict: best pure-budget option in pune. if you want a small, clean tattoo without spending much, body arts gets the job done.

things to know before getting a tattoo in pune

pricing norms

  • most pune studios charge per square inch, not per hour
  • black and grey: rs 500 to rs 1200 per sq inch depending on the studio
  • colour: usually rs 100-200 more per sq inch than black and grey
  • minimum charges: most studios have a minimum of rs 1000-2500 regardless of size
  • pune is 30-40% cheaper than mumbai and bangalore for comparable quality
  • always ask for the total price upfront. don’t just assume per-inch rate x size = final price. complexity, placement, and colour all affect it
  • some studios (like aliens tattoo) charge a separate hygiene kit fee. ask about all charges before committing

hygiene checklist (non-negotiable)

before sitting in any chair, check these:

  • autoclave steriliser visible and in use (ask to see it)
  • single-use needles opened from sealed packaging in front of you
  • fresh gloves worn by the artist, changed if they touch anything non-sterile
  • clean workspace with disposable covers on surfaces
  • ink in individual cups, not shared containers
  • proper disposal of used needles in sharps containers
  • if any studio fails even one of these, walk out. a tattoo infection is not worth saving rs 500

booking process

  • most good studios require an advance booking, especially on weekends
  • bring reference images even if you want a custom design. it helps the artist understand your vision
  • expect a consultation before the actual session, sometimes on a different day
  • larger pieces may require multiple sessions spread over weeks
  • tip is not mandatory in india but appreciated for exceptional work. rs 200-500 is a reasonable tip for a good session

aftercare basics

  • keep the bandage on for 6-8 hours after getting inked
  • wash gently with mild antibacterial soap, pat dry
  • apply a thin layer of tattoo aftercare cream (most studios will recommend one)
  • do not scratch, pick, or peel the scabbing. let it heal naturally
  • avoid direct sunlight, swimming, and soaking in water for 2-3 weeks
  • no gym or heavy sweating for at least a week
  • moisturise regularly during the healing period
  • if it swells, turns very red, or has pus-like discharge, see a doctor immediately

  • first tattoo, nervous? tattoos 1960 (koregaon park) or kit’s tattoo (aundh)

  • realistic portrait? kit’s tattoo studio (aundh) - ankit is the portrait king
