tldr: top picks - tapri (best chai, iconic jaipur brand, rs 300 for two), curious life coffee roasters (best specialty coffee, rs 400 for two), palladio cafe (most stunning cafe in india, rs 2500 for two), and anokhi cafe (best all-rounder, rs 600 for two). jaipur’s cafe scene is split between chai culture and a growing specialty coffee movement.

i haven’t visited jaipur yet. this guide is based on extensive research - local food blogs, google reviews, youtube food tours, and recommendations from rajasthan locals. i’ll update this with first-hand reviews when i visit.

jaipur’s cafe culture is fascinating because it developed differently from most indian cities. in pune, mumbai, or bangalore, the cafe wave was driven by specialty coffee. in jaipur, it started with chai. tapri turned the humble roadside tea stall into a branded experience, and that unlocked something. suddenly, young jaipur had places to hang out that weren’t restaurants or hotels. the coffee wave followed, with roasters and specialty cafes opening in C-scheme and civil lines. and then there are the heritage cafes - places inside palace hotels and havelis where the setting is the whole point.

the result is a cafe scene that has real range: from rs 15 cutting chai at tapri to rs 500 cocktails at palladio, from no-frills filter coffee to single-origin pour-overs. jaipur covers it all.

heritage cafes

these are the places where the building is as much the attraction as the coffee.

1. palladio cafe / bar palladio

narain niwas palace, kanota bagh / cost for two: rs 2500 (cafe) / rs 3500 (bar) / 9/10

palladio is the most visually stunning cafe in jaipur, and i’d argue in all of india. the space is designed by dutch artist barbara miolini and it’s a fantasy of cobalt blue - blue walls, blue arches, blue textiles, all set within the grounds of narain niwas palace. the mughal-inspired interiors with italian food is a combination that shouldn’t work but absolutely does.

the cafe side (palladio cafe) does lunch and afternoon service with italian food: wood-fired pizzas, handmade pasta, risottos, and excellent coffee. the bar side (bar palladio) opens in the evening and transitions into cocktails and a dinner menu. both share the same stunning space.

the food is good, genuinely good, not just “good for jaipur.” the margherita pizza is properly made with quality ingredients. the pasta is al dente. the cocktails are creative and well-balanced. but let’s be honest - you’re going here for the setting. and that’s perfectly fine.

the catch: expensive by jaipur standards. the location in kanota bagh is a bit out of the way from the main city center. reservations are essential, especially for dinner. the instagram crowd can be intense.

verdict: a must-visit. even if you’re not a cafe person, even if you don’t drink coffee or cocktails, the space alone is worth experiencing.

2. the rajput room (rambagh palace)

bhawani singh road / cost for two: rs 3000 / 8.5/10

the afternoon tea experience at rambagh palace. this isn’t just high tea - it’s high tea at a palace where actual royalty lived. the rajput room has ornate interiors, period furniture, and views of the palace gardens. the tea menu includes a selection of darjeeling, assam, and herbal teas served with finger sandwiches, scones, rajasthani pastries, and petit fours.

the catch: rs 3000 for tea and snacks is steep, even by palace hotel standards. but you’re paying for the experience more than the food.

verdict: a once-in-a-lifetime experience. not an everyday cafe visit.

specialty coffee

jaipur’s specialty coffee scene is young but growing fast. C-scheme is the hub.

3. curious life coffee roasters

C-scheme / cost for two: rs 400 / 9/10

this is the best coffee in jaipur, and it’s not close. curious life roasts their own beans on-site, sources from indian estates (chikmagalur, araku valley, nilgiris), and the baristas actually know what they’re doing. you can get proper pour-overs, aeropress, chemex, V60, and a full range of espresso-based drinks. the flat white is excellent - properly textured milk, balanced extraction, no bitterness.

the space is minimalist and focused on coffee, not instagram aesthetics. it feels like a serious coffee shop that happens to be in jaipur rather than a jaipur cafe that happens to serve coffee. there’s a small food menu of sandwiches and baked goods that’s decent but secondary to the coffee.

the catch: it’s a small space and can get crowded during weekends. the food menu is limited. if you’re looking for a full meal, this isn’t it.

verdict: the best specialty coffee in jaipur. if you care about coffee quality, this is where you go.

4. the white sage cafe

C-scheme / cost for two: rs 500 / 8/10

a clean, well-designed cafe in C-scheme that does good specialty coffee and a decent brunch menu. the space is bright, quiet, and has reliable wifi, making it a good work-from-cafe option. the cold brew is good, the avocado toast is competent, and the overall vibe is “modern cafe done right.”

the catch: the menu plays it safe. there’s nothing here that surprises or excites. it’s reliable but not thrilling.

verdict: the best cafe for working in jaipur. good coffee, quiet environment, reliable wifi.

the tapri phenomenon

5. tapri

C-scheme (original branch) / cost for two: rs 300 / 8.5/10

tapri is more than a cafe. it’s a jaipur cultural institution. the concept was brilliantly simple: take the roadside chai tapri (stall) experience - the communal energy, the cheap chai, the conversations with strangers - and put it in a designed space with better hygiene, seating, and consistency. the original tapri in C-scheme started with just chai and bun maska. now there are multiple branches across jaipur and the menu includes maggi, sandwiches, pasta, and various chai varieties.

the chai is still the star. the cutting chai (rs 15-20) is the signature: strong, sweet, milky, served in a small glass. the masala chai, kulhad chai, and various flavored versions are all good. the maggi is the standard late-night comfort food. nothing on the food menu is remarkable, but that’s not the point. tapri is about the chai and the vibe.

the original C-scheme branch is the one to visit. it has outdoor seating, a deliberately casual atmosphere, and a crowd that ranges from college students to startup founders to couples on dates. the newer branches are clean and efficient but lack the original’s energy.

the catch: the newer branches feel like franchises. the food is basic. the chai purists will point out that actual roadside tapris still make better chai. all valid points, but tapri created something that jaipur needed and didn’t have.

verdict: an essential jaipur experience. go to the C-scheme original, order a cutting chai and maggi, sit outside, and understand why this became a thing.

instagrammable cafes

6. cafe bae

C-scheme / cost for two: rs 800 / 7.5/10

cafe bae is one of the newer cafes in jaipur that’s built for the instagram era. the interiors are designed with photo opportunities in mind - neon signs, quirky decor, colorful walls. the menu covers standard cafe territory: pasta, burgers, shakes, waffles, pizza. the food is decent but not exceptional. the portions are generous.

the catch: the aesthetic-first approach means the food is secondary. it’s fine, but if you’re choosing between cafe bae and anokhi for a meal, choose anokhi.

verdict: good for a casual hangout, decent food, strong aesthetic game. not a food destination.

7. wind view cafe

opposite hawa mahal / cost for two: rs 500 / 7.5/10

the unique selling point is literally in the name: a direct, unobstructed view of hawa mahal from the rooftop. the cafe is small, basic, and the food is average tourist-area fare. but sitting on the rooftop with a cup of chai, looking directly at one of india’s most iconic buildings, is genuinely special. best visited in the late afternoon when the light hits hawa mahal’s pink sandstone.

the catch: the food is mediocre. the service is slow. the rooftop can get unbearably hot in summer. it’s a tourist trap, but an honest one - you know exactly what you’re paying for.

verdict: worth one visit for the view. not for the food.

8. tattoo cafe

near hawa mahal / cost for two: rs 600 / 7.5/10

a multi-level cafe near hawa mahal with several seating areas and a rooftop that offers views of the old city. the interiors are eclectic - exposed brick, street art, mismatched furniture. the menu is extensive: pasta, pizzas, burgers, indian food, coffee, shakes. the quality is hit-or-miss but the space is interesting and the views are good.

the catch: the kitchen tries to do too much. the italian food is mediocre, the indian food is better. stick to simpler items.

verdict: a good place for a coffee or drink between sightseeing in the old city. not a food destination.

all-rounders

9. anokhi cafe

C-scheme (KK square) / cost for two: rs 600 / 8.5/10

anokhi cafe is connected to the anokhi textile brand (known for hand-block-printed fabrics) and the cafe shares that aesthetic sensibility. it’s a clean, bright, well-designed space that serves some of the best food of any cafe in jaipur. the menu is health-conscious with an emphasis on organic ingredients, fresh salads, whole grains, and properly made coffee.

the standouts: the quiche is excellent. the sandwiches use quality bread and generous fillings. the salads are actually interesting, not afterthought green bowls. the coffee is good - not curious life level, but properly made. they also do fresh juices and smoothies.

what sets anokhi apart from other jaipur cafes is that the food is genuinely good, not just “good for a cafe.” the kitchen takes ingredients seriously, and it shows.

the catch: the portions can feel small for the price if you’re used to indian restaurant portions. the healthy focus means no indulgent comfort food. it’s closed on sundays.

verdict: the best all-round cafe in jaipur. the food, coffee, and space all work together perfectly.

10. cafe quaint

civil lines / cost for two: rs 700 / 7.5/10

a european-style cafe in civil lines that does good brunch food. the eggs benedict, pancakes, and french toast are all competent. the coffee is decent. the space is small and cozy. it’s the kind of cafe you’d find in any indian metro, competently executed but not particularly distinctive.

the catch: nothing here is bad, but nothing is remarkable either. it exists in a crowded space of similar cafes.

verdict: a reliable brunch spot. nothing more, nothing less.

budget cafes

11. the south indian cafe

MI road / cost for two: rs 300 / 7.5/10

technically more of a restaurant than a cafe, but the filter coffee here deserves mention. strong, properly decocted south indian filter coffee at rs 30-40 a cup. paired with a crispy dosa, it’s one of the best value propositions in jaipur’s cafe scene.

12. the poet cafe

malviya nagar / cost for two: rs 400 / 7.5/10

a book cafe in malviya nagar that’s quiet, has a decent book collection, and serves basic coffee and snacks. the vibe is more library than cafe, which some people will love. if you want to sit with a book and a coffee without instagrammers posing at the next table, this is it.

area-wise cafe guide

C-scheme: the cafe district. tapri, curious life, anokhi cafe, cafe bae, the white sage, lazy mojo - all within walking distance of each other. this is where you go for a cafe crawl.

old city / near hawa mahal: wind view cafe, tattoo cafe. tourist-oriented but the views compensate.

kanota bagh: palladio cafe / bar palladio. worth the trip for the experience.

civil lines: cafe quaint, a few hotel cafes. quieter, more upscale.

malviya nagar / vaishali nagar: the poet cafe, nibs cafe, stepout cafe. residential area cafes, less touristy.

tips for jaipur cafes

  • timing: cafes in C-scheme typically open by 9-10 am and stay open till 10-11 pm. old city cafes near hawa mahal close earlier.
  • wifi: curious life, the white sage, and anokhi have reliable wifi. tapri’s wifi is spotty due to the crowd.
  • reservations: palladio needs reservations, especially for dinner. other cafes are walk-in friendly.
  • best time for photos: palladio is best in afternoon light. wind view cafe is best during golden hour (4-5 pm) when hawa mahal glows.
