tldr: my top 3 out of 18 cafes - roastery coffee house in jubilee hills (best coffee, single-origin beans, rs 500 for two), autumn leaf cafe in banjara hills (best brunch, cozy vibes, rs 800 for two), and the coffee cup in banjara hills (best for work/study, reliable wifi, rs 400 for two). full reviews with prices below.

i haven’t visited hyderabad yet. this guide is based on extensive research - local food blogs, google reviews, youtube food tours, and recommendations from hyderabad locals.

hyderabad’s cafe scene has a split personality. the city has irani cafes that have been serving chai since the early 1900s - they’re covered in my irani chai guide. this guide covers the other side: the modern cafes, specialty coffee shops, brunch spots, and work-friendly spaces that have exploded across banjara hills, jubilee hills, and hitech city in the last decade.

the growth has been driven by hyderabad’s tech industry. a city with microsoft, google, amazon, and hundreds of startups needs places where people can work on laptops, take meetings, and drink coffee that isn’t nescafe instant. the result is a cafe scene that’s now competitive with bangalore and mumbai.

but hyderabad’s cafe scene also has its own character. the brunch culture here is strong. the prices are lower than bangalore or mumbai. and there’s a uniquely hyderabadi blend of modern cafe culture with traditional elements - you’ll find cafes serving osmania biscuits alongside croissants, and irani chai alongside flat whites.

i’ve rated everything out of 10. prices are for two people. no one paid me for this.

specialty coffee

these cafes take coffee seriously. single-origin beans, proper extraction, and baristas who know what they’re doing. if you care about coffee quality, these are your spots.

1. roastery coffee house

jubilee hills / cost for two: rs 500 / 9/10

roastery coffee house is the best cafe in hyderabad for coffee purists. they roast their own beans on-site, source single-origin varieties from across india and abroad, and the baristas can actually explain the difference between a natural process and a washed process coffee. the pour-over here is exceptional - clean, nuanced, with flavor notes you can actually taste rather than just imagine.

the espresso-based drinks are also well-made. the flat white has the right milk texture, the cappuccino is properly frothy, and the iced latte doesn’t taste watered down. they also serve cold brew that’s been steeped for 18-24 hours.

the space itself is industrial-chic - exposed brick, metal fixtures, the roasting machine visible from the seating area. it’s the kind of cafe that takes its aesthetics seriously but not so seriously that it becomes pretentious.

the food menu is secondary to the coffee but it’s competent. sandwiches, bagels, and pastries that pair well with coffee. nothing groundbreaking but nothing bad either.

the catch: the jubilee hills location means parking is difficult. the cafe can get noisy during peak hours (10 am - 12 pm weekends). the food is good but not the reason to visit. and if you don’t care about coffee origins and brewing methods, the premium over a regular cafe won’t make sense to you.

verdict: the best coffee in hyderabad, full stop. if you appreciate good coffee, roastery is a pilgrimage site.

2. kaficko

banjara hills / cost for two: rs 500 / 8/10

kaficko is the specialty coffee spot in banjara hills that serious coffee drinkers know about. smaller and more intimate than roastery, with a focus on espresso-based drinks. the baristas here are skilled and the consistency is high - every cup tastes the same way, every time.

the signature cold coffee is popular but the real draw is the hot espresso drinks. the cortado is the best i’ve found in research - proper ratio, proper temperature, proper microfoam.

the cafe is small - maybe 15-20 seats. the decor is minimal and clean. it’s the kind of place where the coffee speaks for itself.

the catch: tiny space means it fills up fast. limited food options. not ideal for long working sessions.

verdict: the second-best coffee in hyderabad. more intimate than roastery, equally serious about beans.

3. subko coffee

hitech city / cost for two: rs 500 / 8/10

subko is the delhi-born third-wave coffee brand that’s expanded to hyderabad’s tech hub. the coffee quality is excellent - they source directly from indian estates and the roasting is precise. the hitech city location serves the tech crowd that wants proper coffee near their offices.

the space is modern and well-designed. the filter coffee (south indian style but with specialty beans) is an interesting hybrid that works well.

the catch: it’s a chain, which means the experience is standardized. the hitech city location is in a commercial area that lacks character.

verdict: the best specialty coffee near hitech city. convenient for the tech crowd, genuine quality.

brunch and breakfast cafes

hyderabad has developed a genuine brunch culture, driven by the young professional crowd in banjara hills and jubilee hills.

4. autumn leaf cafe

banjara hills / cost for two: rs 800 / 8.5/10

autumn leaf is the best brunch cafe in hyderabad. the pancakes are fluffy, the eggs benedict has proper hollandaise (not the powdered kind), and the french toast is thick, custardy, and perfectly caramelized. the cafe also does solid sandwiches, pastas, and a few indian items for those who can’t do brunch without desi food.

the space is warm and cozy - wooden furniture, plants, soft lighting, and a vibe that makes you want to stay for hours. the service is friendly without being intrusive. the coffee is decent (not specialty-level, but solid cafe coffee).

the catch: weekend brunch wait can be 30-40 minutes. the portions are generous but the prices have crept up. the parking situation in banjara hills is always stressful.

verdict: the best brunch in hyderabad. go on a weekday for the food and the vibe without the wait.

5. blue fox cafe

banjara hills / cost for two: rs 700 / 8/10

blue fox is hyderabad’s best all-day breakfast spot. the menu covers the full breakfast spectrum - english breakfast, american pancakes, waffles, eggs every way, omelettes, and smoothie bowls. the execution is consistent and the portions are honest.

the standout is the english breakfast plate - properly done baked beans, good sausages, crispy bacon, toast, and eggs. it’s the kind of breakfast that sets you up for the day.

the catch: the lunch and dinner menu is less impressive. the cafe can feel crowded during weekend mornings. the decor is fine but nothing special.

verdict: go for breakfast. the morning menu is where blue fox shines.

6. common grounds

jubilee hills / cost for two: rs 800 / 7.5/10

common grounds is a jubilee hills cafe that does solid continental food in a relaxed setting. the quiche, salads, and sandwiches are well-made. the coffee is decent. the ambience is casual-upscale - a place where you’d take a friend or have a relaxed meal.

the catch: nothing stands out dramatically. it’s consistently good without being exceptional at anything.

verdict: a reliable jubilee hills option when you want good food without the decision fatigue of choosing between specialists.

work-friendly cafes

for the remote workers, freelancers, and students who need a place to sit, work, and not be bothered.

7. the coffee cup

banjara hills (and other outlets) / cost for two: rs 400 / 8.5/10

the coffee cup is the best work cafe in hyderabad. the wifi is reliable (not a given in indian cafes), there are power outlets at most tables, the coffee is good and affordable, and the staff doesn’t pressure you to order more or leave. you can sit here for 3-4 hours with a couple of coffees and nobody will give you the side-eye.

the coffee is solid - not specialty grade, but well-made cafe-quality cappuccinos, lattes, and americanos. the food menu has sandwiches, wraps, and light meals that are honest and fairly priced.

the banjara hills outlet is the best for working - it has a quieter section upstairs and the crowd is mostly other remote workers. the hitech city outlet near mindspace is also good.

the catch: the coffee is good, not great. the food is fine, not exceptional. the coffee cup’s strength is being consistently good at everything rather than outstanding at one thing.

verdict: the best cafe in hyderabad for getting work done. reliable wifi, good coffee, no pressure.

8. ciclo cafe

jubilee hills / cost for two: rs 600 / 7.5/10

ciclo cafe has a cycling theme - bicycles on the walls, cycling-inspired decor, and a health-forward menu. the salads, smoothie bowls, and grain bowls are well-made. the coffee is decent. the space is well-lit and spacious, making it good for working.

the catch: the cycling theme is more aesthetic than functional. the prices are higher than the coffee cup for a similar work-friendly experience.

verdict: a good work cafe with a health-food focus. not the cheapest option but the space is pleasant.

unique experiences

9. dialogue in the dark

inorbit mall, hitech city / cost for two: rs 800 / 8/10

dialogue in the dark is not really a cafe - it’s a dining experience where you eat in complete darkness, served by visually impaired staff. the concept originated in germany and the hyderabad branch executes it well. you order from a menu before entering the dark room, and then navigate your food entirely by touch, smell, and taste.

the food quality is surprisingly good - not just gimmicky darkness-themed items, but proper meals. the experience dramatically changes how you perceive flavors and textures. a coffee in the dark tastes different from the same coffee in the light.

the catch: it’s in a mall, which takes away from the experiential aspect. the food is good but you’re paying primarily for the experience. not everyone is comfortable eating in complete darkness.

verdict: do it once. it’s one of hyderabad’s most unique dining experiences and it genuinely makes you think differently about food.

10. olive bistro

jubilee hills / cost for two: rs 2500 / 8.5/10

technically a restaurant, but olive bistro functions as a cafe for the afternoon tea and coffee crowd. the garden setting - on a hill in jubilee hills with fairy lights, stone walls, and european-style landscaping - is the most romantic space in hyderabad. the coffee, tea, and dessert options are excellent for an afternoon visit.

the catch: expensive. the food is good but the ambience is where most of your money goes.

verdict: the most beautiful cafe-like space in hyderabad. perfect for a date or a special occasion afternoon.

dessert cafes

11. concu

jubilee hills / cost for two: rs 600 / 8/10

concu is hyderabad’s best patisserie-cafe. the macarons are genuinely good (not the dry, tasteless kind that most indian bakeries produce). the croissants are buttery and flaky. the cakes are moist and properly frosted. the cheesecake varieties are a particular strength.

the cafe space is small but pretty. it’s the kind of place where everything in the glass display looks good enough to photograph. the coffee is decent - not specialty grade, but good enough to accompany the pastries.

the catch: expensive for what are essentially pastries and cake. the portion sizes are european (which means small by indian standards). the cafe space fills up quickly.

verdict: the best desserts in hyderabad’s cafe scene. come for the pastries and cakes, the coffee is secondary.

12. cream stone

banjara hills (and other outlets) / cost for two: rs 600 / 7.5/10

cream stone is hyderabad’s famous slab ice cream concept. you choose your ice cream base and toppings, and they mix everything on a frozen stone slab in front of you. the result is fresh, customized ice cream that’s smoother than regular machine-churned ice cream.

it’s more of an ice cream shop than a cafe, but the banjara hills outlet has a cafe setup with seating and milkshakes.

the catch: it’s a chain now and the novelty has worn off. the quality is still good but it’s not the unique experience it once was.

verdict: fun, interactive, and the ice cream is genuinely good. worth trying once.

casual hangouts

13. the hole in the wall cafe

banjara hills / cost for two: rs 500 / 7.5/10

a casual banjara hills hangout that does decent coffee, shakes, and snacks. the vibe is relaxed and young. the menu covers the safe cafe territory - burgers, sandwiches, pasta, coffee, and shakes. nothing revolutionary but everything is competently made.

the catch: it’s a safe, unremarkable cafe. you won’t have a bad time or a memorable one.

verdict: a reliable casual hangout when you don’t want to overthink your cafe choice.

14. nukkad cafe

multiple outlets / cost for two: rs 300 / 7/10

nukkad is the budget cafe chain. the coffee is basic but cheap, the food is standard cafe fare (maggi, sandwiches, pasta), and the vibe is young and casual. rs 300 for two is hard to beat for a cafe meal.

the catch: the quality reflects the price. the coffee is instant in many outlets. the food is canteen-level.

verdict: the cheapest cafe option in hyderabad. fine for college students on a budget.

15. feranoz

banjara hills / cost for two: rs 600 / 7.5/10

feranoz is a health-focused juice bar and cafe. fresh juices, smoothies, acai bowls, and salads. the juices are genuinely fresh (not reconstituted), the smoothie bowls are thick and well-topped, and the salads use fresh ingredients.

the catch: the “health food” premium means you’re paying more for less food. the cafe space is small.

verdict: the best healthy cafe option in hyderabad. good for a post-gym refuel.

brewery-cafes

16. ironhill

hitech city / cost for two: rs 1200 / 7.5/10

ironhill is a brewery-cafe that brews craft beer on-site. the wheat ale and the pale ale are both good. the food menu covers bar snacks, burgers, and indian starters. the space is large, industrial, and has a lively vibe on weekends.

the catch: it’s primarily a brewery, not a cafe. the coffee is an afterthought. come for the beer, not the coffee.

verdict: the best craft beer experience in hyderabad with a cafe-adjacent vibe.

the cafe map of hyderabad

banjara hills (road 1-14): the densest cafe cluster. autumn leaf, the coffee cup, blue fox, kaficko, feranoz, the hole in the wall, concu. this is hyderabad’s cafe district.

jubilee hills: roastery, olive bistro, common grounds, ciclo. slightly more upscale than banjara hills.

hitech city / madhapur: subko, ironhill, dialogue in the dark, farzi cafe. tech-focused, modern, chain-heavy.

necklace road: lakeview cafe and a few others. views over food quality.

old city: no modern cafes. irani cafes only. see my irani chai guide for the old city cafe scene.

irani cafes vs modern cafes: the hyderabad choice

hyderabad is unique in india because it has two parallel cafe cultures. the irani cafes - with their marble tables, osmania biscuits, and 100-year traditions - represent old hyderabad. the modern cafes - with their specialty coffee, avocado toast, and wifi - represent new hyderabad.

the honest take: neither is better. they serve different purposes. an irani chai at nimrah cafe opposite charminar is a cultural experience that no amount of specialty coffee can replicate. a pour-over at roastery is a coffee experience that no irani cafe can deliver. the best approach is to experience both.
