bihar is where i’m from. and patna’s real estate scene has exploded in the last few years.

new apartments in boring road, kankarbagh, rajendra nagar, patliputra colony. everyone’s buying flats, and everyone needs interiors. the problem? finding someone who won’t deliver a disaster.

two of my relatives got their flats done recently. one used livspace and it turned out clean and modern. the other used a local carpenter-turned-”designer” and the wardrobe doors don’t close properly. that’s the range you’re dealing with in patna.

so i researched this properly. talked to relatives who’ve done their homes, checked portfolios, visited experience centers during my last trip, and put together this guide.

if you’re in the market for a new flat, check out the best areas to live in patna first. and if you want to understand total costs, the cost of living in patna guide has housing budget breakdowns.

premium options (best quality)

1. livspace

experience center: boring road area / rs 800-1,500/sq ft / 9/10

livspace changed the interior design game in patna. before livspace arrived in 2022, getting interiors done meant either hiring an expensive architect or trusting a carpenter. livspace sits in the middle: structured process, transparent pricing, and actual project management.

here’s how it works: you visit their experience center, discuss your requirements, get a 3D design visualization, approve it, and they execute it with their own team. modular kitchens, wardrobes, tv units, false ceilings, everything. they use their own manufacturing units for modular furniture, which means consistent quality.

my cousin got her 3BHK in kankarbagh done through livspace. the process took about 65 days and the total cost was around rs 14 lakh (1,200 sq ft carpet area, mid-range materials). the 3D visualization was accurate, the installation team was professional, and the 10-year warranty on modular products gives peace of mind.

the catch: not the cheapest option. their modular approach means less flexibility for fully custom designs. if you want a unique carved wooden bed frame or a custom jharokha-style window seat, livspace isn’t the right fit. they work best for modern, modular, clean designs. also, the patna team is still scaling, so during peak wedding/housewarming season (october-february), delivery timelines can stretch.

verdict: best overall option for complete home interiors in patna. the structured process eliminates most of the chaos that comes with interior work.

2. studio de art

boring road (near fraser road crossing) / rs 1,200-2,000/sq ft / 8.5/10

the best boutique interior design firm in patna. run by actual designers (not carpenters who learned autocad), and it shows in their portfolio. they handle everything from residential apartments to commercial spaces, restaurants, and offices.

their design aesthetic is contemporary with indian touches, which suits patna’s market perfectly. the 3D renders are detailed, the material selection is premium (they source from delhi and kolkata when needed), and the execution quality is the best among local firms.

they’ve done some of the nicer restaurants and showrooms on boring road, which you can see in person. residential projects include apartments in patliputra colony and ashiana housing that look genuinely impressive.

the catch: expensive. a full 2BHK will easily cost rs 10-15 lakh and a 3BHK can cross rs 20 lakh with premium materials. the timeline can stretch to 90+ days for larger projects. they take on limited projects at a time, so availability during peak season is an issue. you might wait 2-3 weeks just for the initial consultation.

verdict: best for premium, custom interior design in patna. if budget isn’t a constraint and you want something that looks exceptional, studio de art is the firm to call.

3. spacewood

bailey road (near pillar no 12) / rs 500-900/sq ft / 8.5/10

india’s largest modular furniture brand, and their patna showroom is well-stocked. this is the place for modular kitchens, wardrobes, study tables, tv units, and shoe racks. factory-made, precision-cut, and consistent quality.

the advantage of spacewood is predictability. you choose from their catalog, customize sizes and finishes, and get factory-made furniture delivered and installed. no carpenter variability, no material quality guesswork. their kitchen modules are particularly good, with soft-close hinges, proper hardware, and water-resistant materials.

a relative’s modular kitchen (80 sq ft, L-shaped, with chimney and sink) cost about rs 1.8 lakh through spacewood. installation took 12 days. two years later, everything still works perfectly. that’s the kind of reliability you’re paying for.

the catch: limited to modular furniture. they don’t do false ceilings, wallpapers, paint, electrical work, or full interior design. you need to combine spacewood furniture with a separate contractor for the rest. the designs are functional but not unique. if you’ve seen a spacewood kitchen in one flat, you’ve seen them all. also, the patna showroom’s delivery window is 20-30 days (longer than what they promise in tier-1 cities).

verdict: best for modular kitchens and wardrobes specifically. combine with a local designer for the rest of your home.

mid-range options (good value)

4. homelane

operates online + site visits / rs 700-1,400/sq ft / 8/10

homelane is similar to livspace in concept: an online platform that handles end-to-end interior design. they’ve been in patna for a couple of years now. the process is app-driven, you book a consultation, get a designer assigned, review 3D designs on the app, and they handle execution.

their modular kitchen offering is probably the strongest in this price range. quartz countertops, soft-close drawers, proper waterproofing, all at competitive prices. the app-based tracking is convenient for monitoring project progress.

the catch: being primarily online means the in-person experience is less hands-on than livspace’s experience center. the quality of your assigned designer matters a lot, and it’s a lottery. some patna designers on homelane are excellent, others are mediocre. ask to see the specific designer’s portfolio before committing, not just homelane’s general portfolio.

verdict: best for modular kitchens specifically. good alternative to livspace if their pricing better suits your budget.

5. designo interior

kankarbagh (near rajiv nagar chowk) / rs 600-1,200/sq ft / 8/10

a homegrown patna firm that’s earned a solid reputation over the last 8-10 years. they handle full home renovations including civil work, electrical, plumbing, false ceilings, modular furniture, and decoration. basically a one-stop shop.

what sets designo apart from random local contractors is their design capability. they provide proper 3D renders, material samples, and a structured timeline. the team includes actual interior designers, not just carpenters.

their sweet spot is mid-range apartments in kankarbagh, boring road, and rajendra nagar. a full 2BHK interior costs rs 5-9 lakh depending on material choices. they’re responsive on calls and whatsapp, which matters a lot in patna where half the contractors ghost you after taking advance money.

the catch: the execution team is partly outsourced (local carpenters and electricians), so quality monitoring during execution is crucial. visit the site frequently, don’t just trust the final photos. their premium material options are limited compared to livspace or studio de art. for anything above mid-range, they’re out of their depth.

verdict: best local firm for full home renovation in the mid-range budget. reliable, responsive, and fairly priced.

6. urban ladder interiors

operates online + delivery / rs 800-1,500/sq ft / 7.5/10

urban ladder started as a furniture e-commerce brand and expanded into interior design services. their design aesthetic is clean, modern, and minimalist, think scandinavian-inspired with warm wood tones. if that’s your style, urban ladder delivers it well.

they offer complete room packages (bedroom package, living room package, kitchen package) that include furniture, decor, and installation. the furniture quality is good, better than most local options and comparable to spacewood for wardrobes and storage units.

the catch: their patna presence is still growing. delivery times are 25-40 days (sometimes longer). returns and exchanges are possible but logistically painful from patna. the “interior design service” is essentially furniture packages with layout suggestions, not custom design work. for actual spatial design, false ceilings, or structural changes, you’ll need someone else.

verdict: good for modern furniture packages with design guidance. not a full interior design solution.

budget options (practical choices)

7. de panache interiors

patliputra colony area / rs 1,000-1,800/sq ft / 7.5/10

a design-focused firm that targets the premium segment in patna. they do residential and commercial projects, with a portfolio that includes some upscale homes in patliputra and boring road. the design sensibility is more luxury-oriented, think marble, premium laminates, accent lighting.

the catch: premium pricing doesn’t always match premium execution. a couple of acquaintances mentioned that the design phase is great but the execution team’s attention to detail drops during the later stages of the project. site supervision is inconsistent. worth considering for the design work, but monitor execution closely.

verdict: good design capability, but needs close supervision during execution.

8. square yards interiors

operates online + site visits / rs 700-1,200/sq ft / 7/10

square yards is primarily a real estate platform, but they’ve added interior design services. the advantage: if you’re buying a flat through square yards, they offer bundled interior packages at discounted rates. the design process is template-based with customization options.

the catch: interior design isn’t their core business. the quality depends entirely on the local execution partner they assign. for new apartment interiors (before move-in), they’re decent. for renovation of existing homes, other options are better.

verdict: worth considering only if you’re buying a flat through square yards and want bundled convenience.

9. hometown (by praxis)

showroom on bailey road / rs 500-800/sq ft / 7/10

india’s largest home retail chain. the bailey road showroom has ready-made furniture, modular options, mattresses, and decor. this is where you go when you want to furnish a flat quickly without the design process.

the furniture is decent quality at competitive prices. sofas, dining tables, beds, and study tables are their strength. they also offer assembly and delivery services.

the catch: this is retail furniture, not interior design. there’s no custom design work, no false ceilings, no spatial planning. you’re buying products off the floor and putting them in your flat. works for furnished rental flats or when you need quick solutions. not for people who want a designed home.

verdict: best for quick, affordable furnished setup. not a design solution.

10. local carpenter-designers

available across patna / rs 400-700/sq ft / 6.5/10

the default option for most patna households. every area has carpenters who’ve evolved into “interior designers” by learning basic 3D software. they do woodwork, POP false ceilings, basic modular work, and painting.

the rates are the lowest on this list. a full 2BHK can be done for rs 3-5 lakh if you go with a local carpenter-designer. and some are genuinely skilled. the carpenter who did my uncle’s house in kankarbagh has been doing this for 20 years and his woodwork is beautiful.

the catch: massive quality variance. for every skilled carpenter, there are ten who’ll butcher your kitchen. no warranties, no formal contracts, no 3D renders (just verbal descriptions and maybe a basic sketch). material procurement is on you or on them with zero transparency on pricing. disputes are common and resolution is basically non-existent.

if you go this route: get references from multiple families. visit homes they’ve done in the last 6 months. insist on a written agreement with timeline and cost breakdown. pay in installments tied to milestones, never pay 50% upfront. visit the site daily.

verdict: cheapest option but highest risk. only works if you get a proven carpenter through strong personal references.

all prices inclusive of material and labor. actual costs vary based on material choices, design complexity, and market conditions. always get itemized quotes.

timeline expectations

full 2BHK45-75 daysmultiple trades (carpenter, electrician, painter) coordinating
full 3BHK60-90 daysmaterial sourcing, design changes mid-project
commercial/office45-60 dayspermit and approval delays

add 15-20% buffer to every estimate. patna has seasonal delays: monsoon (july-september) slows construction work, and the wedding season (november-february) means carpenters and laborers are overbooked.

my honest tips

  1. always get a 3D render before execution. this is non-negotiable. if a designer or carpenter can’t show you a visual of what your room will look like, they shouldn’t be doing your interiors. livspace, homelane, and studio de art all provide this. insist on it.

  2. visit completed projects, not just portfolios. instagram portfolios are curated. ask the designer for addresses of 2-3 recently completed projects and visit them. check the edges, the handles, the joints, the alignment. that’s where quality shows.

  3. pay in milestones, not upfront. standard payment structure: 10% at booking, 30% at material procurement, 30% at 50% completion, 20% at 80% completion, 10% at final handover (after quality check). any designer demanding 50% upfront is a red flag.

  4. material selection matters more than design. a great design with cheap materials will look terrible in 6 months. prioritize marine plywood over commercial, quartz countertops over granite for kitchen, and branded hardware (hettich, hafele) over local. the material cost difference is 20-30%, but the durability difference is 5-10 years.

  5. get everything in writing. scope of work, materials to be used (with brand names), timeline, payment schedule, warranty terms. patna’s interior market runs on trust and verbal agreements, and disputes happen all the time. a written contract protects you.

  6. kitchen deserves the most budget. allocate 30-35% of your total interior budget to the kitchen. it’s the highest-use area, has the most technical requirements (plumbing, waterproofing, hardware), and is the first thing guests notice. don’t cheap out here.

the final word

patna’s interior design market is maturing fast. five years ago, your only options were a local carpenter or an expensive architect. now you have national platforms (livspace, homelane), brand showrooms (spacewood, hometown), boutique firms (studio de art, designo), and everything in between.

for a structured, reliable experience: livspace. for premium custom design: studio de art. for modular kitchen specifically: spacewood or homelane. for mid-range full home: designo interior. for budget setup: hometown for furniture + local carpenter for woodwork.

the key is matching your budget to the right type of provider. don’t go to studio de art with a rs 4 lakh budget, and don’t trust a random carpenter with a rs 15 lakh project.

and if you’re still setting up your new flat in patna, the moving to patna guide covers the full relocation process, and the best broadband in patna guide will sort your internet before the interior work is done.

last updated: february 2026. interior design pricing in patna changes with material costs and demand. i’ll update this when relatives share new experiences or when major pricing shifts happen. if i’ve missed a great designer, it’s because nobody in my network has used them yet.
